Family Fun Day Fosters Belonging Across the ISAZ Community

Community & Social

In the foreground, two individuals stand near a small foam-bordered racetrack on the grass, with toy cars positioned inside it. A person in the mid-ground is taking a photo, and tents, cones, and various activity setups are visible throughout the area under cloudy skies.

For Insight Academy of Arizona (ISAZ) students, families, learning coaches and teachers, Family Fun Day is more than just a chance to close the laptops and enjoy a day in the park. It is the ability to gather as a community, connect with one another and celebrate student achievement.

The Spring 2026 Family Fun Day was one of the most successful school-wide events to date, bringing together more than 1,000 students, families and instructors. Attendees traveled from across Arizona to meet at Red Mountain Park in Mesa for a day filled with fun activity.

The weather was crisp with a few light sprinkles, overcast clouds and a nice breeze – setting the scene for a perfect Family Fun Day.

Building Confidence and Fostering Connection Outside of the Classroom

While ISAZ students connect daily through live virtual instruction, events like Family Fun Day provide an additional opportunity to build meaningful relationships with teachers and classmates and bring the strong online community together in person.

At Family Fun Day students share big hugs and say “thank you” to their teachers, play with their friends, explore extracurricular and CTE opportunities and build confidence in a supportive, connected environment.

Regular schoolwide gatherings reinforce that everyone at ISAZ is part of the incredible, supportive school community that thrives both online and in person

CTE Pathways Expo

One of the best parts of Family Fun Day is not only the chance to connect but for students to show off their incredible work. At ISAZ, preparing students for life after graduation is at the center of everything we do, and our CTE Pathways are a powerful example of this mission. Through our programming, students can explore a career fields, gain technical knowledge and learn real-world skills that empower them to forge their own paths.

At Family Fun Day, many CTE students demonstrated their classwork and even practiced presentations they will submit in upcoming CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) competitions.

Members of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club showcased clinical skills learned in their nursing program through live demonstrations, including performing blood pressure checks.

Engineering students prepared for their SkillsUSA competition by sharing their project highlighting coding, 3D printing and design principles. Their interactive booth allowed participants to color a 3D “Poké ball” designed after the popular card and video game, animated series and manga. After they bedecked their sphere, they hid it around the park and ISAZ students operated a drone to find them.

Lastly, ISAZ business and marketing students showcased their award-winning work from the recent regional FBLA competition, including a student-designed racetrack which earned first place. Attendees had the opportunity to test the track themselves and engage directly with the students who conceptualized and built it.

“Student work is always a highlight of Family Fun Day,” says Cedric Corbin, Executive Director of ISAZ. “It is a great opportunity for incoming high schoolers to explore the CTE paths offered by ISAZ, learn more about the opportunities they have and see the examples that our impressive students have set.”

Strengthening Community Through In-Person Experiences

When participants weren’t connecting with their teachers or exploring CTE programs, they were enjoying face painting, food trucks and other games from the day.  With so much to do, Family Fun Day always seems to fly by, but luckily, with two Family Fun Days a year, families have another opportunity to join in the fun this fall.

ISAZ also offers additional in-person events throughout the year, including Prom, graduation, field trips to the science center and so much more.

One of the great advantages of online education is flexibility and families can choose with the level of in-person involvement that works for them.  At ISAZ, teachers and school administrators are intentional about not only delivering a premier education, but also creating opportunities for students to build meaningful connections and make lasting memories.
