Inspiring Curiosity Beyond the Classroom: Insight Academy of Arizona Visits the Arizona Science Center
Insight Academy of Arizona (ISAZ) students recently embarked on an exciting and educational field trip to the Arizona Science Center. Designed to spark curiosity and inspire imagination, the visit offered students a unique opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts in an exciting environment.
The trip was available for students of ISAZ and Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA) and more than 120 families attended. The Arizona Science Center offers experiences for learners of all ages, making it an ideal destination for each school’s diverse student body.
“Field trips and events allow our virtual students an opportunity to lean outside the classroom and connect face to face with students in their school,” said ISAZ and AZVA Family Engagement Coordinator, Jennifer Wodrich. “It is a rewarding experience to see students who have met in their live classes or our virtual campus in the K12 Zone meet for the first time in person.”
Students explored everything from the intricacies of the human body to the fascination of flight, from the forces of nature to the science of sound waves and music. In addition to exploring exhibits, students participated in educational demonstrations and presentations led by Science Center educators.
Whether building structures, studying exhibits or listening to presentations, students were encouraged to ask questions, test ideas and think critically.
One of the field trip’s attending parents, Tanya Swartwood, said she tries to take her kids to all the school events – from ice cream socials to large field trips like the Science Center. “It is amazing to see our friends, classmates and teachers in person during these experiences. We are excited to spend the day together and learn something new in a fun environment,” said Smartwood.
Each semester ISAZ plans a trip to one of the major city hubs of our state, encouraging students from all neighboring cities to attend, learn and have fun together. Experiences like this help students see learning as an ongoing journey that extends far beyond textbooks and tests.
Our visit to the Arizona Science Center reflects our school’s commitment to providing meaningful learning opportunities that inspire students to explore and grow, but also to connect with their teachers and peers.
By bridging classroom instruction with real-world experiences, we aim to prepare students not only for academic success, but for a lifetime of curiosity and discovery. Field trips like this one remind us that when students are given the opportunity to learn by doing, the possibilities are endless.
