Harpist, Valedictorian, 2026 Graduate of ISAZ – Grace Has the Dedication to Succeed No Matter What She Faces

Playing a musical instrument is often considered a gateway decision. Once an instrument has been chosen and mastered, it is easier to jump to a new one. This is often the case with most student musicians. They start with the violin and move over to the piano or maybe they start with the piano and move over to percussion. Whatever the progression, students come to enjoy many positive outcomes from playing an instrument (or two).   

Grace, the 2026 valedictorian for Insight Academy of Arizona (ISAZ), has been playing harp for the past three years. She was fortunate to study under Dr. Heidi, a harpist with The Phoenix Symphony. But switching to the harp from the violin is unlike changing between other instruments. The harp is very unique in how it has to be played and learning it can be incredibly challenging. Yet Grace has met the challenge head on, according to Dr. Heidi. When Dr. Heidi pushes Grace toward perfection, Grace doesn’t back down. “She holds herself to the same perfection as I do when it comes to playing the harp.”  

In just three years’ time, Grace has become so skilled in playing the harp she recently was voted a finalist in the 2026 K12 Talent Showdown. Finalists traveled to Virginia on June 8 to play live for the judges. While Grace did not win, she was incredibly excited about the opportunity. Plus, she experienced her first ever trip on an airplane! 

Grace credits the flexible schedule she had at ISAZ as a big component of her ability to excel in playing the harp. “I am able to complete my schoolwork at an accelerated pace rather than waiting for the next school day to learn more or wait for assignments to be given. The personalized schedule at ISAZ has been a huge help in allowing me to dedicate time to playing the harp and practicing regularly.” 

Through Grace’s high school career, she not only became a skilled harp player but was also selected as the valedictorian for the 2026 ISAZ graduating class. Just like anything Grace sets her mind to, she shows commitment and an unwavering dedication to being the best she can be. Her advice to the graduating class was simple – get involved, do something big and don’t just let the opportunities you’ve been given pass you by. Make a new friend, try a new hobby or just be the version of yourself you didn’t know you could be! This is the same mindset that has helped Grace achieve great things in her musical and academic adventures.
