Enrollment and Attendance FAQs
Who is eligible to attend Insight Academy of Arizona (ISAZ)?
ISAZ offers enrollment for grades 7–12 for Arizona residents.
Can my child enroll in ISAZ and another public school?
ISAZ is a full-time, public school choice with a comprehensive academic program. The state of Arizona does not allow for dual enrollment in more than one full-time option.
Does ISAZ accept students who have been expelled from another Arizona public school?
According to statute, ISAZ is a public school and does not have to accept students who have been expelled from another Arizona public school. Students who have been expelled from an Arizona public school and submit an enrollment application will be considered on an individual basis. Parents are responsible for informing our enrollment team if their student has been expelled at initial submission of their enrollment application.
Is ISAZ available to children without a permanent address?
The McKinney Act of 1987, or P.L. 100-77, ensures that each child of a homeless individual, and each homeless youth shall have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as provided to other children and youth. The act has been amended and is considered the McKinney-Vento Act currently. Under the Act, schools are prohibited from delaying a homeless child’s entry into school due to delays in obtaining school records. Rules regarding guardianship must be waived for homeless students living with foster parents or relatives other than their legal guardians. Individuals who are considered McKinney-Vento students are in housing temporarily, and due to hardship, their housing is substandard or considered inadequate, or a student is not living with a parent or guardian.
ISAZ can offer school supplies and Title I services to qualifying homeless youth. Qualifying students are determined on a case-by-case basis. If you feel your child may be eligible for services or would like to review the ISAZ Admission of Homeless Children and Youth policy, please call our school office at 602.476.1320.
How many of my children can I enroll in ISAZ?
Because ISAZ provides the lesson plans and materials needed for grades 7–12, many parents find it easy to enroll multiple children in the program.
What does it cost to attend ISAZ?
Because ISAZ is a public charter school program, there is no tuition. We provide Arizona-certified teachers and instructional materials. Families are responsible for providing some common household materials (such as printer ink and paper). Our enrollment consultants can help address your technological and computer questions and needs.
What is the attendance policy?
As Arizona public school students, all ISAZ students must comply with the state-required minimum number of 180 instructional days. Also, a minimum number of instruction hours per grade level are required. Contact our office for specific grade-by-grade attendance requirements. Students may log instructional time anytime during the day and on any day of the week or weekend. It is important for students to log attendance daily.
How do I enroll my student?
Complete the ISAZ online enrollment form. Please be prepared to provide copies of documents, such as:
- Proof of residence (e.g., a driver’s license or state ID, tax record, utility bill, etc.)
- Proof of age (e.g., a birth certificate or other reliable proof of the pupil’s identity and age) within 30 days
For a list of specific documents, contact our enrollment consultants at 866.339.4946. At the beginning of the online enrollment form, you will find a checklist to help you keep track of enrollment requirements.
How will I know when my student’s enrollment has been approved?
ISAZ’s enrollment processing center will contact you and inform you that your enrollment has been approved or that documents are still needed to process your application. A representative will call you to discuss enrollment in ISAZ’s program and course placement.
Can our family take a vacation during the school year?
The school calendar includes school holidays or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. However, families may work with ISAZ teachers and administration to swap vacation days based on family preferences with no penalty or unexcused absences. Parents can apply for an “educational leave of absence” during the school year. Requests must be submitted to the head of school 10 days before the absence. Leave will be approved based on consistent student progress and attendance. No educational leave will be granted during scheduled state-mandated testing.
